The Central Testing Laboratory, a government institution under the Science & Technology Division, was merged with the Bangladesh Standards Institution, a state-owned enterprise, as per the decision of the then Cabinet on May 16, 1973. Through this Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) was form. In 1995, the Directorate of Marketing and Classification of Agricultural Products under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Bangladesh merged with BSTI. The ordinance has been turned into ‘Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions Act-2018’. At present, BSTI is functioning as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries. Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) (English: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution) is a government autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh, mainly for the purpose of quality control of services and products. It is headquarter in Dhaka and has regional offices in six divisional cities across the country. Selling any product without the approval of BSTI is a punishable offense. Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution was establish as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industry by merging the Central Testing Laboratory and Bangladesh Standards Institution through Ordinance 38 issued by the Government of Bangladesh in 1975. Later in 1995, the Directorate of Marketing and Classification of Agricultural Products under the Ministry of Commerce was also with BSTI.
