To facilitate control, some sectors were divided into multiple sub-sectors. Sector 10 was directly under the head of the Bangladesh Army. The manpower of this sector was mainly naval commandos. After the conference, Bangladesh forces started a long-term guerrilla war. The force was later reorganized and divided into three brigades:
- K Force, led by Major Khaled Musharraf, consists of 4th, 9th and 10th East Bengal Regiments.
- The S Force, led by Major KM Shafiullah, consists of 2nd and 11th East Bengal Regiments.
- Z Force, led by Major Ziaur Rahman, consists of 1st, 3rd and 6th East Bengal Regiments.
The Bangladesh Armed Forces officially established on 21 November with the military members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. After the establishment, the guerrilla warfare of the freedom fighters as well as the armed forces started the traditional war. The surrender of the Pakistan Armed Forces to the joint forces of Bangladesh and India on 16 December 1971 marked the end of the nine-month war of independence and the liberation of independent Bangladesh.

বাংলাদেশ সশস্ত্র বাহিনী ফোর্সেস লখ্য ২০৩০ নামক দীর্ঘমেয়াদি আধুনিক পরিকল্পনার মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছে। এই পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর একটি বড় ধরন এর সম্প্রসারণ এবং আধুনিকায়ন কর্মকাণ্ড চলমান। এই পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী সকল বাহিনীকে উত্তর, দক্ষিণ ও কেন্দ্রীয় নামক তিনটি কোরে ভাগ করা হচ্ছে। ইতিমধ্যে সিলেটে ১৭ পদাতিক ডিভিশন, কক্সবাজার এর রামুতে ১০ পদাতিক ডিভিশন এবং বরিশাল-পটুয়াখালিতে ৭ পদাতিক ডিভিশন স্থাপন করা হয়েছে। এটি সেনাবাহিনীর মোট ডিভিশন সংখ্যাকে ১০ এ উন্নীত করেছে। সেনাবাহিনী পদাতিক সেনাদের আধুনিক এর জন্য ইনফ্যান্ট্রি সোলজার সিস্টেম নামক উচ্চাভিলাষী কার্যক্রম চলমান রয়েছে। এই সকল কার্যক্রমের অংশ হিসেবে প্রত্যেক পদাতিক সৈন্যকেচোখ সুরক্ষা সরঞ্জাম, বুলেটপ্রুফ ভেস্ট, নাইট ভিশন গগলস, ব্যালিস্টিক হেলমেট, ব্যক্তি-থেকে-ব্যক্তি যোগাযোগের যন্ত্র, হাতে বহনযোগ্য জিপিএস যন্ত্র ও কলিমেটর সাইট যুক্ত বিডি-০৮ রাইফেল দ্বারা সজ্জিত করা হচ্ছে।
