The scouting movement in modern Bangladesh began as part of the British Indian branch of the Scout Association. After the partition of India, scouting activities continued till the independence of Bangladesh as part of Pakistan Boy Scout Association. In 1956, the second National Jamburi of Pakistan Scouts was held in Chittagong with 4000 scout members. In 1969, the grounds of the East Pakistan Boy Scout New Training Center at Moucha were use in the 5th National Jamburi of the Pakistan Boy Scout. During the Bangladesh War of Independence, its name was change to Bangladesh Boy Scout Association in April 1971. From 8 to 9 April 1972, scout leaders from all over the country met at a meeting in Dhaka and formed the Bangladesh Scout Association.

In that year, on 9 September, the association received official recognition as Ordinance No. 111 of the President of Bangladesh. Earlier, the East Bengal Scout Association was formed in Dhaka on 22 May 1948 under the leadership of veteran scout Salimullah Fahmi. On June 1, 1974, the World Scout Organization recognized the Bangladesh Scout Association as the 105th member. However, at the Fifth National Council meeting on 16 June 1986, the name was change again to Bangladesh Scouts. In order to give opportunities to girls, the National Council introduced Girl-in-Scouting in Bangladesh on 24 March 1994 with the approval of the World Scout Organization.

Uniform

Anyone who swears by the scout movement has to wear a scout uniform. Uniforms carry the symbol of democracy and the identity of unity. There are separate uniforms for Cub Scouts, Scouts, Rover Scouts and Trainers. Gray shirt and dark navy blue trousers for boys. For girls, shades of gray, dark navy blue trousers and scarves. The female trainer wears a gray sari and a dark navy blue blouse. Each scout is required to wear a navy blue cap, black suede and a distinctive scarf.
