ব্রিটিশ যুগে রাজশাহী অঞ্চল এর শিক্ষাদীক্ষা উন্নয়ন করার জন্য ১৮৭৩ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় রাজশাহী কলেজ৷ রাজশাহী কলেজে আইন বিভাগসহ পোস্ট গ্রাজুয়েট শ্রেণী চালু করে এর কিছুদিন পরেই বন্ধ হয়ে যায় এসব কার্যক্রম৷ তখন রাজশাহীতে একটি নতুন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্থাপন এর প্রয়োজন অনুভূত হয়৷ ১৯৪৭ সালে দেশ বিভাগে পাকিস্তান সরকার দেশের সব কলেজ ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধিভুক্ত করার প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করে৷ রাজশাহীতে স্যাডলার কমিশন এর সুপারিশ অনুযায়ী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠার পক্ষে আন্দোলন শুরু হয়৷

On February 17, 1969, the university’s proctor popular personality. The name of Rajshahi University was add to the history of freedom struggle in exchange for the life of Mohammad Shamsuzzoha. Proctor was responsible for peacekeeping. Zoha tried to control the procession of students. Trying to prevent his beloved students from being attack by the armed forces of the Western ruling clique. But their barbaric aggression tore at the moment. Dr. Protests erupted across the country over Johar’s death.
Ayub Khan’s mattress rose in protest, the dictator fell. As a result, the freedom-loving Bengalis came a step further on the path of liberation from the shackles of subjugation. In the minds of Bengalis, Professor Zoha is alive as a martyr. In the early stages of the war of liberation, the teachers of the university, Shahid Sukhranjan Samaddar, Shahid Habibur Rahman and Mir Abdul Qayyum were kill by the barbaric Pakistani army. Mathematics teacher Mojibar Rahman was subject to unspeakable torture. Besides, thirty students, employees and officers were also martyr in the war of liberation.
Symbol
The symbol of Rajshahi University has a circle. An open book which is a symbol of knowledge and from the sight of the sky the water lily is a national symbol of beauty and purity. It is also a symbol of life and energy in the sense of the sun. Soon after the rise of Bangladesh, the university announc a prize for the new symbol and call for design. After selecting the original design paint by artist Golam Sarwar, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and artist Hashem Khan change the current symbol. Symbolic color: circle and original text Cobalt Blue. That is the color of the sky, the river of generosity. The outline of the book is reddish, the color of the national flag. The midline of the book is golden, the quality of education is as valuable as gold.

Rajshahi University Campus 6 covers an area of about 753 acres or 304 hectares Rajshahi University has 5 higher research institutes. Rajshahi University education activities are being conducted in 56 departments under 9 faculties There are 11 residential halls for students across the northeast side of the campus There are 6 residential halls for students located at the west end of the campus On the east side there is a dormitory for researchers. Across the east-west edge are residential areas for teaching staff The Shaheed Memorial Museum of the University is the first Liberation War Museum in the country. At present there are 3 active journalists’ organizations in Rajshahi University. Rajshahi University Central Cultural Alliance has 15 organizations. The Faculty of Business Studies Debating Forum and Gold Bangla are the two main debating organizations. There are also various hall-base debate clubs. There are famous Mutt Court organizations in the law department here. The Rajshahi University Career Club is working to help students become aware of their careers. In addition, the University Higher Study Club has support for higher education abroad. Startup RU is working on business and development. The boys hall
- Motihar Hall: The hall is named after Motihar police station in Rajshahi. As the campus is under this police station, the students call it the green square of Motihar. The hall was built with tins in 1958, but in 1980 a new three-storey hall was built again.
- Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall: The second hall of Rajshahi University is named ‘Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall’. From 1962-61, the hall was name Jinnah Hall. Later, after the independence of the country, the hall was name after Fazlul Huq in 1972. The location of the hall is on the land adjacent to the university mosque. In this case, there are 300 residential students. The hall has rooms ranging from four to single seats in the same room.
- Shah Makhdum Hall: The third hall of Rajshahi University was named ‘Shah Makhdum Hall’ after the famous Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Makhdum Rups. The three-storey hall was established in 1982. The hall has been officially divid into east and west blocks for smooth administration of the hall. Downstairs to the north are the guest rooms, offices, library and internet room with the presiding room. To the west there is a canteen, a newspaper room, a mosque and a common room, and to the east there are two dining rooms. The number of seats is 430. The number of residential and non-residential students is 430 and 16 respectively.

- Nawab Abdul Latif Hall: The fourth hall of Rajshahi University Boys is located in front of Shah Makhdum Hall. The hall is name after Sir Nawab Abdul Latif, a prominent educationist of the country. Nawab Abdul Latif Hall was establish in 1984. The hall has accommodation for 300 students. Rajshahi University is the only one where no room can accommodate more than two students.
- Syed Amir Ali Hall: In the same year, the fifth hall was built in the name of Syed Amir Ali, an academic from Rajshahi University. The location of this ‘Syed Amir Ali Hall’ is on the east side of Shah Makhdum Latif Hall. The hall accommodates 420 students. In this case, the university has the highest number of Hindu students. This is the only hall of Rajshahi University that has a separate dining for Hindu students. There is also a canteen for Muslim students to eat with a dining room.
- Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall: The sixth hall was built here after the name of Shahid Shamsuzzoha, the first martyred teacher of Bangladesh and professor of chemistry and former proctor of Rajshahi University. The Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall was establish in 1989 in the slaughterhouse area of University Purbapara. This hall can be found after coming to the north through Binodpur Gate. The hall is locat in front of the only international hall name Shaheed Mir Abdul Qayyum Dormitory for researchers at Rajshahi University. The hall accommodates 320 students at a time.

- Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall: Professor Habibur Rahman of Rajshahi University was martyr in the great war of liberation in 1971. Later in 1973 a hall name Shaheed Habibur Rahman was establish. The seventh hall will be seen from the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium, which is a little ahead through the main gate of the university. The university hall has the highest number of students. The hall has accommodation for 614 students. Recently the hall was newly construct. A portrait of Habibur Rahman has been made in front of the hall.
- Mother Box Hall: The eighth hall was built in 1974 in the name of Rajshahi University Professor Mother Bakhsh. Location of Mother Bakhsh Hall in the railway station area of the university. The hall can accommodate 584 students at a time.
- Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall: The ninth hall of Rajshahi University built in 1986. Name Shaheed Suhrawardy, this hall is in the back station area of the University’s Mother Bakhsh Hall. The hall has accommodation for 592 students. The hall can accommodate four students in one room starting from a single seat.
- Shahed Ziaur Rahman Hall: The tenth hall of Rajshahi University built in 1993 after the name of President Ziaur Rahman. The hall is located between the University Mother Bakhsh and Shaheed Habibur Rahmana Hall. This hall is a little north of the university stadium. 596 students can stay in the hall together.
- The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall is located behind the central cafeteria at the university. Rajshahi University is the only place where there is a separate arrangement for researchers. The hall accommodates 450 students at a time.
