The idea of the Shakti Foundation first crossed my mind when researching women’s empowerment for my PhD thesis. At that time, I was working with Grameen Bank and Bangladesh Rural Development Board on similar projects to improve the living standards of poor women. It made me realize that Bangladesh needed a change. A change that will eliminate existing gender inequality and reduce poverty across the country. The Energy Foundation was thus created to pursue this cause. Our goal was to implement the basic rights to food, health, work and education for disadvantaged women throughout Bangladesh.
