On February 20, 2021, Professor Sameer Kumar Saha received the prestigious Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh’s second highest civilian award for his contribution to research. On behalf of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Minister for Liberation Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque handed over the prizes to the winners. Introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali language movement on February 21, 1852, 21 prominent citizens of the country have received this prestigious award in their respective fields. Professor Sameer Kumar Saha (MSc, PhD, FAM, FRCPath), Professor of Microbiology, has published nearly 200 scientific research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and received multiple accolades in his name.
২০২১ সালের ২০ ফেব্রুয়ারি, অধ্যাপক সমীর কুমার সাহা গবেষণায় অবদানের জন্য বাংলাদেশের দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ বেসামরিক সম্মাননা একুশে পদক লাভ করেন। গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর পক্ষ থেকে মুক্তি বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী একেএম মোজাম্মেল হক বিজয়ীদের হাতে পুরস্কার তুলে দেন। ১৯৫২ সালের ২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারি বাংলা ভাষা আন্দোলনের শহীদদের স্মরণে প্রবর্তিত, দেশের ২১ জন বিশিষ্ট নাগরিক নিজ নিজ ক্ষেত্রে এই সম্মানজনক পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন। মাইক্রোবায়োলজির অধ্যাপক সমীর কুমার সাহা (এমএসসি, পিএইচডি, এফএএম, এফআরসিপ্যাথ) পিয়ার-পর্যালোচিত আন্তর্জাতিক জার্নালে প্রায় ২০০ টি বৈজ্ঞানিক গবেষণা পত্র প্রকাশ করেছেন এবং তাঁর নামে একাধিক প্রশংসা পেয়েছেন।

He is the head of the diagnostic department at the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health, Dhaka Children’s Hospital, assistant scientist at icddr, b, associate at the Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins University, the United States and various national and international valued member health advisory boards ignoring infectious diseases and vaccines. He is also the Executive Director of the Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF). Led by Professor Saha, the CHRF team has developed evidence and facilitated the decision-making process for the introduction of Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) and pneumococcal vaccines in Bangladesh. With Bangladesh’s Extended Immunization (EPI) program, Professor Sameer and his team have played an active role in saving the lives of thousands of children.
Professor Samir has been awarded the UNESCO Carlos Finlay Prize for his research in microbiology and the American Society of Microbiology and the American Academy of Microbiology for his contributions to clinical microbiology. Bill Gates also recognized him as a “hero.” Based on quality microbiology services, and evidence of vaccine introduction, CHRF laboratories in four hospitals in Bangladesh have been recognized as World Health Organization sentinel sites. Professor Sameer Saha is also very proud to be a consultant for future scientists, mentoring 49 students from Dhaka University, 15 of whom are either pursuing or completing their doctoral thesis.
