The Ministry of Defense of Independent Bangladesh formed at the end of December 1971 with the conviction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, to build a modern and beautiful defense system for Bangladesh. From the Secretariat, the Ministry was shifted to the High Court building in 1982 and to the present building at the Ganobhaban Complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in 1993. Initially it consisted of 14 departments / agencies but at present the ministry is being run with 25 departments / agencies.
